BMW Vision DC Roadster – Is it the Future of BMW Motorcycles?

We are on the verge of accepting the reality of electric mobility and motorcycle companies have started catching up lately with the concept and the strategy. BMW Motorcycles is the designer of some exciting motorcycles in the world and now it is getting ready with their innovations in the industry. They have unveiled the concept of the all-new BMW Vision DC Roadster Concept. Though it is a concept derived by the BMW, the company calls it the electrical awakening of the twin-cylinder Boxer Engine.

Edgar Heinrich, Head of the Design BMW Motorcycles explains the concept, “The boxer engine is the heart of BMW Motorrad – an absolute stalwart of its character. But BMW Motorrad stands for visionary zero-emissions vehicle concepts, too. Given this, one question that arises is: what would happen if we were to replace the boxer engine with an electric motor and the required battery? The Vision Bike shows how we’re able to retain the identity and iconic appearance of BMW Motorrad in distinctive form while at the same time presenting an exciting new type of riding pleasure. After all: anyone who’s ever tried it out in practice knows very well that riding on two wheels is just as exciting when it’s electrically powered! The high level of torque right at set-off makes for breath-taking acceleration and this almost brutal power delivery creates a whole new experience of dynamic performance. And the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster puts a face to this experience.” (Source: www.carblogindia.com)

Retaining the iconic boxer engine, the BMW Vision DC Roadster will feature a completely new architecture. The battery is most probably to be a longitudinally oriented battery with two side elements aligned with cooling ribs and the boxer engine of the 1932BMW R32. The frame of the roadster will be milled from carbon fiber and lightweight aluminum. The design is developed to reach a high speed with stability and a reduced volume of the bike. It will be an interesting matter to see how the concept turns out to be and it is expected to launch in 2023.
