Maruti Suzuki to Introduce BSVI–Compliant Engine in Eeco
India’s biggest car manufacturer is all set to upgrade its effective people mover to meet the latest crash test standards and emission norms introduced by the government. Maruti Suzuki Eeco got a safety update earlier this year that involved a driver-side airbag, ABS, rear parking sensors, and now several new updates will be coming soon in the vehicle. It will also get structural enhancements and a redone nose to meet the latest crash test standards and pedestrian-protection norms that will come into effect from October 1, 2019.
In order to meet BSVI emission norms, Maruti Suzuki Eeco will get an upgraded engine. Most probably, Maruti will update the Eeco’s outdated 1.2-litre G-Series petrol engine. Since Maruti Suzuki Eeco adapts longitudinal engine layout and rear-wheel-drive architecture, it will not be able to function with the latest K-Series petrol engines that are used in models like Wagon R, Swift, Dzire, Ignis, and Baleno.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki Eeco comes with a BSIV-Compliant, 1,196cc, four-cylinder engine that churns out 73hp and 101Nm of torque in petrol form and 63hp and 85Nm of torque while on CNG. It comes mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and ARAI-rated mileage of 15.37kmpl and 21.94km/kg with CNG. Certainly, after the jump to BSVI-Compliant engine, output and fuel economy figures will drop and the updated engine in the Eeco will be accompanied by a price hike.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a powerful and spacious vehicle from the biggest car manufacturer in the country. Though the first model of this vehicle was a flop, the second model of Eeco became a success as a people mover. The brand has sold over 5,00,000 units of the Eeco in the past nine years with five and seven-seat versions. The upcoming version of Eeco will surely increase the sale of vehicles. Let’s wait and watch as the brand makes changes in this utilitarian people mover of India.
