The Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2019, that amends the provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, was in the headlines for quite a long time in 2017. It was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha but couldn’t pass the Rajya Sabha. The bill was finally passed in the Rajya Sabha on July 31, tabled by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. The bill is aimed at enforcing stricter penalties for norm violations of traffic rules.
Now that the bill has been passed, you might need to alert your loved ones. If they are caught violating traffic norms, they might have to pay a fine of Rs. 25,000 or might get arrested. The legislation has decided a stricter punishment for several traffic offences that include compensation of Rs. 5Lakhs for death and Rs. 2.5Lakhs for grievous injuries in a motor vehicle accident case. Another important amendment made in the rules involves, Not Providing Way for Emergency Vehicle. If you do not complete your duty as a human being, you will get fined up to Rs. 10,000.
